Painters Tape Design

I stumbled across a new technique which I have been playing with this weekend. There are lots of examples on the web of the blue painters tape technique to create simple yet effective backgrounds such as this one above.

I cased is card from Dawn Olchefske at
http://dostamping.typepad.com/dostamping_with_dawn/videos-10-minute-tuesday/

It's not masking tape but this blue tape which does not stick permanently to the card.

All you do is cut a length of it and press it on a Stampin' Up ink pad which is nice and juicy. Then you place it on the card and gently rub over the area you want the ink applied to. You can either make well covered strips or make them very patchy. Each one will be quite different.

In this one I used Rich Razzleberry and Always Artichoke and I did a fairly solid pressing of the ink. You can use any silhouette stamp over the background. This one is from Stampin' Up's Fabulous Florets.

This one is like the first one and uses Daffodil Delight and Crisp Canteloupe as well I included it here to show the contrast with a more even coverage of ink.

This one was inspired by the card underneath. It uses Stampin' Up's Open sea stamp set. This is a great set for male cards. I must use it more! I like the uneven look of this background of Marina Mist, Pool Party and Soft Sky. The card below obviously used a wider tape which I think looks better with this design.

I just love this card. Check out the website as it has a great video on the technique.
